The Fiddle Parlor Studio

Katie willie photoKatie has been teaching fiddling since 1994. She teaches fiddling as a basis for historical study, technique, improvisation, theory, rhythm, preservation, repertoire (Texas fiddle, western swing, swing, jazz, oldtime etc.) and purely the joy of playing music.

Katie is consistently joyful to work with and her love for the fiddle is contagious! Our girls love her teaching style and have grown so much musically.

—Erin Johnston

Lessons are taught primarily by ear, with an emphasis on music reading.  Katie teaches fiddling in the traditional sense of building a song from the melody and then expanding to many variations of the theme.  Practice programs and styles taught are designed per student.  The styles range from: Texas oldtime fiddle, swing, western swing, Gypsy jazz and Celtic.

Katie loves teaching at fiddle camps and has taught at the Montana Fiddle Camp, the Spokane Fiddle Camp, Ludiker Fiddle Camp, Hartz Fiddle Camp, Midsummer Day’s Dream String Camp, Texas Fiddle Camp, the Peaks to Plains Suzuki Camp.

With Katie, learning to play the violin is a positive and motivating experience.
